Spotlight | @thesoulsofmyshoes

We go way back with #kimberlylyn. When we say way back… We’re talking 90s RnB kinda back. We’re proud to know someone who has developed such a strong role in the #fashion community of #Toronto. Her blog @thesoulsofmyshoes is interesting and very relevant. Here’s a #repost from her attendance at the #starwars event at @wmcfashionweekz

Keep up the amazing work Kim. We see you!

Adopt-A-Day | Habitat for Humanity

On April 15th 2015 The Singh Team participated in the Adopt-A-Day program with Habitat for Humanity. Habitat helps low-income families that are currently living in unsafe or unhealthy housing by giving them a hand up through homeownership, not a hand out. Their vision is a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live – something we feel passionate about! Volunteering and financial support makes a tremendous difference in the lives of the families we build for and especially for their children: An impact study conducted on Habitat Toronto Partner Families in 2012 revealed how affordable homeownership strengthens communities and opens doors for low-income youth: •         76% of homeowners report an improvement in children’s school grades •         81% report an improvement in children’s social lives •         92% of respondents say they will remain in their HFHT home for a very long time or can’t imagine ever moving *http://www.habitatgta.ca/images/2012_Annual_Report/Habitat_2012_AR_Web.pdf The build site was located at 960 Brimley Rd and will be home to fifteen, two-storey townhomes. The Habitat GTA home that we were helping to build was for the Ali Family. As the patriarch of the family, Mohammed Ali says that having a Habitat home will mean “Everything” to them. For the past 20 years, Mohammed has been working to ensure that his family has a safe, decent shelter above their heads. However, the high cost of living has made it difficult to save for a home. Ali lives with his wife Fozia, who is currently pursuing higher education; and four children, who are all under the age of 12. Presently, they live in a two bedroom apartment in an unsafe neighbourhood. Mohammed and Fozia will work together to reach their 500 sweat equity hours.      The Singh Team personally raised over $1000 for this family and we loved every minute of it. It was very hard work but totally worth it. A cause we will definitely be a part of again.
